From the abundance of the heart, the "fingers" speak

The ACLU – the cross, the military and prayer

According to a recent report, the ACLU is wanting all military grave markers in the shape of a cross to be removed from graves, and, they reportedly want prayer removed by military chaplains to the point that chaplains are no longer able to use the name of Jesus in their prayers.

I have walked through Arlington Cemetery on numerous occassions and am impressed with the crosses that line the hillsides. The ACLU needs to keep their heathen noses out of the business of the military and the church. These men and women have died, many of them, defending our rights to be free. We don’t need some group of atheists and agnostics telling us that we aren’t allowed to honor these military heroes and service men and women by placing a cross at the head of their grave.

I’m proud to be called and American, and I’m even more proud to be called an American and a Christian. The Constitution of the United States of America gives us the right to religious freedom and I have no intention of having some heathenistic group of godless individuals taking that freedom away. Our soldiers and troops may fight for our freedom around the world, but I will honor their efforts for fighting equally as hard for our freedom right here in our own country.

If it seems as if I’m on a high horse, I am because I’m offended at the strides godless people are making in this country in threatening our religious freedom. I’ll fight to be able to proclaim the name of God and of Christ until the day I die. I’ll equally fight for the right of our military men and women who have crosses as headstones to keep them as a sign of our allegiance to both God and Country.

  1. The ACLU would have to be pretty stupid to try that.

  2. According to several links, the email circulating is not true. I think we as Christians need to be careful not to exalt forwarded emails as fact (e.g., “recent reports”) without investigating first. Too many email hoaxes are going around, and unfortunately, Christians have become easy prey. Let’s be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_aclu_marines_praying.htm

  3. Thank you MR. Smith for you comment. I couldn’t agree more, which is why I posted the links, including the one from snopes.com. As I said in the following blog, with conflicting reports, I’m not sure of it’s authenticity, but, I do know for sure they are trying to remove crosses from other public places and, if they are successful, then what will stop them from going after the ones on military graves. We, as Christians, need to pick our battles, but we do need to be vigilant in the fight for the rights of Americans to express their freedom of religion – whether it’s Christianity or not. God gave us a free-will to do what we want, whether it agrees with his principles and precepts or not. We, as Christians, may not agree with other religions, but like ours, we should be free to express it. And we should remain conscious of those who attempt to rob Americans of that freedom. Unfortunately, the fight seems to be more against Christianity than against any other religion, per sae. Again, thanks for the comment.
